Holy Name Central Catholic School Receives $575,000 for Wind Turbine Project

Worcester – Holy Name Central Catholic Jr./Sr. High School has received a grant from the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative’s (MTC) Renewable Energy Trust Fund to design and construct a wind turbine on the school’s campus.

The school was awarded $575,000 to help fund the design and construction of a 600kW wind turbine that will defray the costs of traditional fuels while providing an environmentally safe fuel alternative.

Representative John Fresolo, whose district Holy Name is located in, said, “I am very proud of the hard work Holy Name has put into identifying and securing a funding source for this project.  The use of renewable resources, such as wind power, will create not only a wonderful learning experience for Holy Name students, but also a terrific example of innovations in alternative energy that all of us should all be seriously considering.”

The Massachusetts Technology Collaborative is the state’s development agency for renewable energy.  The Renewable Energy Trust’s goal is to maximize environmental and economic benefits for the Commonwealth’s citizens by pioneering and promoting clean energy technologies and fostering the emergence of sustainable markets for electricity generated from renewable sources.

The project is slated to be completed in November, 2007.
