Representative Fresolo Announces the Start of Construction on the Four Corners and Blackstone River Road Projects
Boston, MA - Representative John P. Fresolo (D-Worcester) announces two projects in the City of Worcester that have begun construction within his district.
The Four Corners project will see land taken from the adjacent parking lot to be used for widened lanes and a dedicated right turn only lane. Rep. Fresolo secured almost $500,000 for this necessary land taking at Four Corners. With the closing of the Brosnihan Square exit on Route 290, drivers are required to take the College Square exit, forcing large amounts through the intersection at Southbridge and Cambridge Streets. With the planned improvements, Four Corners will be able to absorb the excessive traffic and keep the flow as consistent as possible. Also larger vehicles that currently have trouble turning in the intersection will be able to do so without stopping traffic in other directions. The construction contract value is $2,139,006.00.
"I am happy to have been able to secure this funding so that the City of Worcester and the Commonwealth will be able to renovate this important intersection properly the first time," stated Rep. Fresolo. "Widening the lanes and creating a right turn only lane concurrently will guarantee that the intersection will be able handle the influx of traffic."
The Blackstone River Road project will advance the effectiveness of traffic flow on Blackstone River Road and Greenwood Street. This project will also bring great visual enhancements to the Blackstone River Road area with new street lights. The construction contract value is $2,247,319.00.
"I am happy to announce the start of the Blackstone River Road project as it will greatly enhance safety and improve efficiency of traffic flow on Blackstone River Road and Greenwood Street," said Rep. Fresolo. "This project will also bring aesthetic improvements to the Quinsigamond Village area."
*Please note that all of the aforementioned funding is from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, not from federal stimulus funding.
